UNFILED TAX RETURN COMPLIANCE
Your Next Step: Provide Your Tax Documents
Your intake is complete. Now provide the tax and supporting documents for the two tax years being prepared through our designated secure client portal.
Provide Income Documents for Each Tax Year
For each tax year being prepared, provide the documents that apply:
- Forms W-2
- Forms 1099
- Social Security benefit statements
- Pension and retirement statements
- IRA distribution statements
- Interest and dividend statements
- Investment and capital-gain documents
- Schedule K-1s
- Marketplace health-insurance tax forms
- Other applicable income documents
Keep documents organized by tax year whenever possible.
Provide Applicable Deduction and Credit Records
For each included year, provide applicable records such as:
- Mortgage-interest statements
- Real-estate tax information
- Charitable-contribution records
- Medical-expense records when relevant
- Childcare expense information
- Education-related tax documents
- Student-loan interest statements
- IRA or HSA contribution information
- Other records supporting deductions or credits
Provide Prior Returns and Tax-Payment Information
When available, provide:
- Your most recently filed federal tax return
- Your most recently filed state tax return
- Federal estimated-tax payment records for each included year
- State estimated-tax payment records
- Extension-payment records
- Information showing refunds applied to either included year
- IRS correspondence affecting either return
- State tax correspondence affecting either return
Have You Received Tax Notices?
If the IRS or a state taxing authority has contacted you about either unfiled year, provide copies of the notices through the secure client portal.
This is especially important if a notice contains:
- A response deadline
- A proposed tax assessment
- A substitute or proposed return
- Collection activity
- Levy or garnishment information
- Lien information
- A request to file a missing return
Providing a notice for review does not automatically expand this engagement to include notice response, collection work or representation.
Missing Documents From an Older Tax Year?
Provide the records you currently have and identify important documents that appear to be missing.
The $1,050 fee assumes the information necessary to prepare the two included returns can be determined from reasonably complete and organized records.
Document retrieval, income reconstruction, bookkeeping, business-record cleanup or other significant reconstruction work is not automatically included.
If additional work is required, we'll identify the scope and applicable fee before proceeding.
Your Service Covers Up to Two Standard Prior-Year Returns
The $1,050 fee covers preparation of up to two standard prior-year individual Form 1040 returns.
Additional tax years, Schedule C business activity, rental property, K-1 income, multiple states, significant investment activity, digital assets, complex capital gains, incomplete records or other complexity may require additional pricing.
Any additional scope and fee will be identified before that additional work proceeds.
Filing the Returns Does Not Automatically Resolve Other Tax Problems
Preparing and filing the included returns does not automatically eliminate penalties or interest, pay outstanding balances, stop collection activity, release liens or levies, resolve tax notices or resolve other unfiled years.
Tax-account investigation, notice response, penalty abatement, collection matters and other resolution services require a separate engagement when applicable.
Purchasing this service, completing the intake or providing documents does not extend or suspend any existing federal or state deadline.
Protect Your Tax Information
Your tax return and supporting documents may contain Social Security numbers, financial information and other sensitive taxpayer data.
Provide these documents only through the designated secure client portal. Do not send them through ordinary email.
What Happens After You Provide Your Documents?
1 — Document Review
We'll review the documents for both included tax years and determine whether additional information is needed.
2 — RETURN PREPARATION
Once the necessary information and scope are confirmed, the included returns move into preparation.
3 — REVIEW, DOCUSIGN & FILING
You'll review the completed returns and receive a DocuSign for required signatures before eligible returns move to filing.
What If We Need Something Else?
If additional information or documentation is needed while preparing your return, Tax Control Group™ will contact you with the specific items required.
Use the client portal whenever requested information contains sensitive taxpayer or financial information.
